RYA Training

Core to the lifeboat service that RBRB provides is a commitment to training. This serves a number of purposes but essentially every person we train to be safe on the water is an ambassador to others. Not only are they less likely to get into trouble themselves, but they set an example and encourage other users of our inshore waters to take equal precautions.

We provide in depth scenario based training to our crew and they train hard every Sunday morning all year round and also Wednesday evenings in the Summer. In addition, we insist that Crew and Helmsmen reach a minimum basic certificated level of Royal Yacht Association (RYA) qualifications, including VHF Radio, Powerboat Level 2, Safety Boat, Basic Navigation, First Aid and similar.

RBRB is a recognised RYA Training Establishment and we have a number of qualified instructors among our helmsmen.

In 2012 RBRB received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund to purchase and install a Coastguard approved pager system which will dramatically improve our crew communications.
