The Rescue Boat survives purely on voluntary contributions. All personnel working within the organisation do so voluntarily and receive no financial reward.
|
The Rescue Boat has always enjoyed the whole hearted support of the village and annual running costs are met from regular fund raising functions, grants and donations. More concerted effort is required in the case of funding the larger capital expenditures when financial support in the form of sponsorship will be sought. In the case of company sponsorship, every effort is made to ensure the organisation concerned receives the maximum return for its generosity by way of publicity, hospitality and notification of the boat's operation. The Rescue Boat is a fully Registered Charity and is also entitled to the benefits of VAT zero rating on certain items of boat equipment and maintenance. The annual running costs of the organisation are currently in the region of £5,000. On top of this are the capital expenditures on new boats, engines and new equipment. |
Typical examples of such expenditures where financial assistance is always welcome are as follows:-
| Annual operational costs | £5,000 |
| 17 ft semi rigid inflatable hull | £4,000 (basic) |
| 55 HP Outboard motor | £3,500 each |
| Fitting out of new boat | £3,000 |
| Dry suits | £550 each |
The serviceability of the boat is reviewed annually and renewed when necessary, although we would expect to get 5 years service from a hull. We therefore need to buy a new boat every 5 years or so.
Current policy is to retain two engines in 100% working order; one on the boat, and the second in the boathouse for immediate changeover in the event of damage. Any question of their 100% reliability results in their immediate replacement. Designated mechanics within the organisation are responsible for the care and maintenance of all operational equipment.
In addition we require capital reserves and contingency funds an case of major repairs to the Rescue Boat House.
Thank you, we recognise and are extremely grateful for the fantastic support that we have received from the local community over the past 25 years. Thank you to all of you who have given help over this time.
But we cannot stand still; we still need your continued support.
