This web site provides background information about the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat
and how it came into being in 1982 after the closure of the ( RNLI ) Royal
National Lifeboat Institution Station at Runswick. The boat and equipment need
frequent maintenance in readiness for use under emergency conditions where lives
are at risk, and must be replaced when necessary. In order to co-ordinate with
other rescue services, the boat must operate according to standard procedures.
The crew train regularly to the level required to undertake a rescue under
hazardous conditions off the Yorkshire Coast. Although they serve on a voluntary
basis, the Rescue Boat has operating costs of around £5000 per year, as well as
the cost of replacing major items of equipment as the need arises. The local
community organises events to raise money to cover costs, but any help or
financial support is always most welcome.
